I'm not much of a fan of either of the artists featured (Patti Smith and Robert Mappelthorpe), but the book is very compelling taking me into a new world and time that I was not really aware of. (***)

A wonderfully gritty, compelling set of interwoven stories told by a gifted author. (*****)

I know there are a lot of SF-haters out there and I intellectually recoil when people claim that the US is "the greatest country in the world" (seriously, how asinine is that???).
And I loathe hyperbole.
But face it, San Francisco is the greatest city in the world.

Sure, there are SF haters, like there are haters on any city.
But saying I'm from San Francisco, in all my global travels (like right now where i am in Costa Rica), continues to light up the faces of people from anywhere and everywhere.
Right on!
