When I was a child, my whole family (5 boys and mom and dad) often had dinner together. Sometimes, I would curl up in my mother's lap after I ate and....somehow,....she ate around me (I swear she was Terminator 2....but a nice one....).
Well, the other night, my daughter curled up in my lap and she asked me to make up a story.
The Meadow's Egg
One day, the Sun noticed an egg in the middle of a beautiful, grassy meadow. There was a garden of sweet smelling flowers nearby and a bubbling creek alongside the meadow but nothing or no one else there other than the egg.
The Sun could feel the baby in the egg shivering. The Sun loved everyone and everything, just like God. So, the Sun thought loving and warm thoughts. Soon the day and baby in the egg were warm and peaceful.
Later that day, the Clouds, which were emptying their rain filled bellies elsewhere, felt the baby in the egg getting thirsty. The Clouds loved everyone and everything, just like God. First, the Clouds asked the Sun if it would be okay if they helped because if they came to the meadow, nobody could see the Sun.
The Sun said yes because, just like God, the Sun loved everything and everyone and that meant thinking of others before one’s self. But the Clouds needed one last thing, a ride. Before the Clouds even asked, the Wind got into the flow. The Wind loved everyone and everything, just like God.
The Wind dropped the Clouds off at the meadow where they delivered the rain from their swollen bellies into the thirsty belly of the baby in the egg. The Sun then said goodbye to the Clouds and the Wind and began to shine again.
As evening approached, the Moon and the Stars felt the baby in the egg getting tired. The Moon and the Stars loved everyone and everything, just like God. So they all carefully and lovingly took their place in the sky to prepare for night time so the baby could sleep.
And as the Stars and the Moon were all finally in place the River felt the Baby needed a lullaby. And the baby in the egg fell asleep with a smile listening to the lovely song of the River.
Early that next morning, the Sun was returning to the Meadow. As the Sun smiled and said goodbye to the Stars and Moon, the egg started to hatch. The Sun was bursting with joy and called out to the Stars and Moon to look back. The Sun even invited the Clouds and Wind to come and see as well. Another new life brought into the world full of love.
The egg smiled and said “Ta-da!” like a magician as the baby finally emerged.
The Moon blew the first kiss to the new baby.
The Stars were prancing and some even became shooting stars they were so happy.
The Wind gently blew over the garden of flowers nearby. The flowers were all laughing and smiling at the new baby which made their fragrance even more beautiful. The Wind blew the smell right to the baby.
The Sun was overcome with love and hugged the Clouds who were emptying water again.
Except this time, the water wasn’t from their bellies. The Clouds were weeping with joy for the new baby.
Everyone loved each other and the baby and the baby loved all of them, just like God.
As the baby stretched out its heart and soul from the egg color filled the sky and the Sun, who had first seen the egg asked “Beautiful baby, what is your name?”
The baby smiled full of love and said “My name is Rainbow.”
