Whenever I walk by a smoker (mostly of the cigar, cigarette and legal pipe variety) and catch a whiff of what they are exhaling (in the morning, in particular) I can't help but notice that it smells....awful.
I've smoked cigarettes a few times in my life but I guess I've never really tasted them because I've never inhaled. (Now, admittedly, I have tried "smokeless" tobacco before and 5 minutes after taking a "dip" of Kodiak, I was naked on my friends floor greener than Shrek.) But if I inhaled, would I really like the taste of it?
I read today that the effects of second hand smoke can only be combatted by a smoke free environment. So, it certainly stands to reason that I have a feeling I can kill others as well as myself with smoking (but then again, everyone's dying and I have my own unhealthy vices).
But regardless, is there a time when smoke tastes good? Is it like beer? (which tasted and to a certain extent today tastes awful but I drink it) Does it start to get better or less awful? I suppose the feeling and resulting addiction sort of cancel out the concerns.
As a non-smoker I remind myself to take the time to smell the roses. Does a smoker have to remind themselves to take the time to smell the plumes?
